What began as a routine early morning journey turned into an absolute nightmare for a couple in Kiambu County after a road accident left them victims of a violent robbery and sexual assault.
Detectives based at the Kikuyu Police Station have launched an intensive manhunt for two unidentified suspects following the harrowing incident, which took place at approximately 5:30 a.m. near the KARLO Forest–Renguti Junction in the Kerwa area of Kikuyu Sub-County.
How the Incident Unfolded
According to preliminary police reports, the couple was driving home when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the road and landed in a ditch on a nearby farm.
While stranded and assessing the damage, two men approached the vehicle under the guise of being "Good Samaritans" offering assistance. However, the situation quickly turned violent. The attackers drew knives, overpowered the couple, and stripped them of their mobile phones.
The criminals then forced the victims to disclose their M-Pesa PINs, enabling them to transfer an undisclosed sum of money from their mobile wallets. Beyond the financial theft, the ordeal escalated into a heinous sexual assault, with one of the victims being gang-raped. Both victims sustained physical injuries during the attack before the perpetrators fled into the darkness.
Rescue and Police Response
Good Samaritans and members of the public eventually arrived at the scene, rescuing the traumatized couple and rushing them to the P.C.E.A. Kikuyu Hospital, where they were admitted for urgent medical treatment and psychological support.
A multi-agency team—led by the Kikuyu Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO), the Officer in Charge of Crime, traffic officers, and Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) from Kiambu County—processed the scene later that morning. Investigators recovered several empty alcohol bottles from inside the crashed vehicle, which have been secured as exhibits.
